Learn to Fly - Arm Balancing & Inversion Workshop - $25 with Maggie Santella Mon, Aug 21, 2017 at 7:15 pm - 9:00 pm
Arm balances and inversions are as much a mental practice as a physical practice. This workshop is for those with an interest in learning the physics behind arm balances and inversions.
Join Maggie for a flow through a vinyasa series to prepare our physical bodies, and then we will break down several common arm balances and inversions, including side plank variations, hurdlers pose, chin stand, and more!
The benefits of arm balances and inversions are abundant:
• build upper body strength
• increase proprioception (awareness of one’s body in space)
• keep your practice fun and light hearted
• experience the freedom of flying
All levels (beginners to advanced) welcome.
Yoga Book Club - $20 with Katy Kopnitsky Mon, Aug 28, 2017 at 7:15 pm - 9:00 pm
When we truly embrace the practice of yoga, we embrace a life of truth-seeking and our role as a lifelong student. The practices of yoga are codified and explored in many great texts, spanning thousands of years ago all the way up to books being written today, in our time, with new and evolving perspectives on these ancient healing practices of self-exploration and self-liberation. In Yoga Book Club we’ll explore this ocean of knowledge and perspective one book at a time. At Yoga Book Club expect to engage in asana practice, group discussion, and meditation to help us dive deep into the book of choice.
The second installment of Yoga Book Club focuses on Parts Three and Four of YOGA Discipline of Freedom: The Yoga Sutra Attributed to Patanjali translated by Barbara Stoler Miller. The Yoga Sutra is a collection of 196 sutras, or aphorisms, which outline the practices of yoga. We will guide you through a practice incorporating elements of restorative yoga and yoga nidra, reciting parts three and four of the Sutras aloud throughout the practice. After allowing the words of the Sutras to wash over the mind in a state of conscious relaxation, we will move on to a guided group discussion and meditation.
We recommend you purchase your own copy, YOGA Discipline of Freedom: The Yoga Sutra Attributed to Patanjali translated by Barbara Stoler Miller, to read or review before we gather. It will be helpful to have for reflection during our discussion and as reference throughout your continued yoga practice. If you choose not to purchase the book, you can still attend Yoga Book Club.
